The Musicians
For the past decade Concertante has played with a sheen, warmth, and polish that few ensembles ever achieve. Comprised of a core of six virtuoso string players, the group performs seldom played works requiring different combinations of instrumentalists. As solo performers they have graced the stages of the world from New York’s Carnegie Hall to London’s Royal Festival Hall to Shanghai’s Grand Theatre. Concertante has performed a wide array of repertoire ranging from works by established masters to less commonly performed composers. The ensemble has an interest in furthering the cause of new music and this season will be launching a new series of six world premieres by Lowell Liebermann, Tigran Mansurian, Gabriela Frank, Shulamit Ran, Richard Danielpour, and Kevin Puts; thus adding to the long list of contemporary composers whose works have been first played by the group. Concertante’s performances have been enthusiastically praised by the nation’s critics: “A cohesive and beautifully polished sound” (New York Times); “Connecting to the soul of the music, they took listeners on an intense emotional journey and held them spellbound” (Cleveland Plain Dealer); “Exemplary balance and flawless ensemble playing” (Columbus Dispatch); “Flawless technique and stunning interpretations” (The Oregonian).

Concertante performs regularly at Merkin Hall in New York City as well as being the Resident Chamber Music Ensemble of the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.
